Report: Aston Villa join Spurs and two others in tracking experienced midfielder

Tottenham are one of four teams tracking Inter Milan midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to CalcioMercato.

Vidal, who turns 35 this summer, has seen his role take a downturn this season. Despite making 17 appearances in Serie A, just one has come from a starting berth (Transfermarkt) with manager Simone Inzaghi preferring other options at his disposal.

But CalcioMercato claims that has not put a number of sides across Europe off from holding an interest in the Chilean, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The report states Tottenham are one of the clubs tracking the veteran midfielder, who has more than 130 international caps to his name (TransferMarkt).

Vidal spent time under current Spurs boss Antonio Conte during his stints at Inter and Juventus, but endured injury setbacks in his time with the Italian.

However, it is also suggested that Spurs’ interest in Vidal is joined by the likes of Aston Villa, Marseille and Galatasaray, who are firmly in the race for the upcoming free agent.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is very much a player that Conte would sign as he knows him well from Juventus and Inter. He could be a decent option to fill a gap in the squad, but as a long-term option, there are question marks. If the side is to rebuild then he isn’t the signing it needs.
