Report: Aston Villa make contact with agent of Spurs-linked defender

Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Matthias Ginter is attracting interest from Aston Villa, according to Sky Germany football reporter Florian Plettenberg.

Villa are said to have made contact with the central defender’s representatives, however, the Borussia Mönchengladbach player is not ready to make a decision and is waiting for other options.

Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas also took to Twitter to claim that Tottenham, West Ham United and Juventus have all watched the 28-year-old in action this season.

Ginter is out of contract at the Bundesliga outfit at the end of the current campaign, having in December took to his Instagram account to announce his decision to depart and is allowed to speak to clubs outside of Germany regarding his future.

The German international who typically plays as a centre back has also been utilised as a defensive midfielder and at right-back.

Ginter’s availability as a free agent this summer makes him an attractive proposition for Tottenham, however, their focus needs to be on a left-sided central defender instead.

If Spurs were looking to raise funds for new targets, putting Davinson Sanchez up for sale and bringing in Ginter would not be a bad piece of business either.
