Report: Atletico Madrid are interested in move for Spurs academy graduate

According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid are interested in a move for Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga.

Tanganga suffered yet another injury-hit season in 2021/22, which has unfortunately become a bit of a theme for the 23-year-old since he made his first-team debut for Spurs two and a half years ago.

According to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, Antonio Conte is expected to take a decision on the Spurs academy graduate’s future this summer after taking a close look at him during pre-season.

The journalist added that the former England Under-21 international has a few admirers in Serie A, who are interested in either a loan or a permanent deal.

Mundo Deportivo have now claimed that Tanganga is also attracting interest from Spain, with Atletico having their eye on the Spurs man.

The report explains that Diego Simeone is keen on adding numbers and quality to his backline this summer and the Tottenham defender fits the bill for what he is looking for.

Mundo Deportivo claim that Los Colchoneros view Tanganga as a player who could fill in at both centre-back and right-back.

Spurs Web Opinion

I fully expect Tanganga to win Conte and his coaching staff over in pre-season. I believe the 23-year-old’s attributes make him a perfect fit for the right centre-back role in the Italian’s back three, and I fully expect Spurs to hang on to him as a cover for Cristian Romero.
