Report: Atletico Madrid have made Tottenham man their number one target

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur are now in talks over a deal for Emerson Royal.

Despite having a strong end to the season on the back of Matt Doherty’s injury,  Emerson is one of the players that Antonio Conte reportedly wants to move on this summer (The Times).

Sky Sports News reported earlier this month that Atletico could make a move for the Brazilian, with the Los Colchoneros said to hold a long-term interest in the former Real Betis man.

Atletico’s interest in Emerson was also backed up by AS, who claimed that Diego Simeone’s side are hoping to sign the defender on loan.

TMW have now claimed that the La Liga giants have made the Tottenham man their number one target for the right-back slot this summer.

The report reveals that Atletico are now engaged in talks with the Spurs hierarchy over a deal to bring the Brazilian back to La Liga, just 12 months on from his move to North London from Barcelona.

TMW claim that the two clubs are negotiating an initial loan deal with an option to buy Emerson permanently.

Marca also reported this week that Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Emerson on loan but Tottenham wanted a permanent transfer (print edition 27/06/22 — as relayed by Sport Witness).

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe Emerson will be a great fit for Atletico and Simione will love the 23-year-old’s aggression. The Brazilian, despite his shortcomings going forward, has shown that he is very good defensively, and I can see him doing really well at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
