Report: Atletico Madrid midfielder snubs Tottenham approach

Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul has rejected the opportunity to join Tottenham Hotspur, according to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

Marca reported last month that the midfielder is determined to succeed at the Metropolitano Stadium, despite interest from clubs across Europe.

The Argentine joined Atletico from Serie A outfit Udinese last summer and was a regular fixture in Diego Simeone’s side, having made 48 appearances in all competitions (transfermarkt).

De Paul has rebuffed interest shown from Tottenham and other potential suitors to continue his career at the Spanish side, where he is under contract until 2026.

Tottenham have been one of the most active clubs in the summer transfer window having already signed five new players to bolster Antonio Conte’s squad for the season ahead.

De Paul struggled at the start of the season for Atletico, but did improve, especially at the tail end of the campaign, and will want to continue his career there with the World Cup on the horizon in November.

He was deployed as a deep-lying midfielder for much of the season by Simeone but tends to flourish when utilised as a number 10 for Argentina.
