Report: Atletico Madrid monitoring out-of-favour Tottenham player

According to Sky Sports, Atletico Madrid are closely following Harry Winks’ situation at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of a potential summer move for the midfielder.

Winks has struggled to get a consistent run in the starting eleven all season and the midfielder has subsequently lost his place in the England squad.

The 25-year-old has already been linked with a move to Spain in the summer, with some sources claiming last month that Valencia were readying a summer move for the midfielder.

Sky Sports now reveal that Atletico could also challenge Valencia for Winks’ signature. The current La Liga leaders are said to be admirers of the Tottenham man and also made a number of enquiries about him last summer.

The report also asserts that while Winks does not fit into Jose Mourinho’s plans, the midfielder is thought of quite highly by the Tottenham hierarchy, having successfully graduated from the club’s youth system into the first-team.

With Tottenham now out of Europe, the 25-year-old faces an uphill task to get game time at Spurs until the end of the season. So, it is increasingly starting to look like his future lies elsewhere.

At this point, the only thing that can potentially save Winks’ Tottenham career is if Mourinho loses his job. I personally believe that a move to La Liga would be the right step for Winks’ career.
