Report: Atletico Madrid prepared to pay £16.5m for Spurs-linked midfielder

Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur January transfer target Gini Wijnaldum is wanted by Atletico Madrid, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Wijnaldum only joined Paris Saint-Germain during the summer on a free transfer after his contract at Liverpool had expired and is said to be considering his future ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The Dutch midfielder was said to have been open to the prospect of joining Tottenham on loan in January which would have seen Dele Alli or Tanguy Ndombele join the Ligue 1 giants (90min).

Atletico are reported to be prepared to offer £16.5million for the 31-year-old who still has two-and-a-half years left on his contract in the French capital.

Despite being the wrong side of 30, Wijnaldum would make an instant impact to the Tottenham midfield given the current limitations of Harry Winks and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Conte needs to vastly improve the current midfield offering with Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur the likely preferred duo among many Spurs fans. The current lack of creativity in our midfield has been clear to see in recent months.
