The Daily Mail have revealed that Atletico Madrid have ‘rekindled’ their interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ahead of the summer transfer window.

Atletico Madrid are interested in Hojbjerg again

The report backs up what has been widely reported by other sources over recent weeks by stating that Spurs are ready to listen to offers for Hojbjerg as Ange Postecoglou seeks to freshen up the spine of his team.

The Dane, who has just a year left on his contract, is said to be keen to move as he is seeking regular stars and a fresh challenge.

According to the Mail, Atletico have become the latest club to enter the race for the Spurs star, having seen their move for the player fall through last summer.

Hojbjerg was gutted not to join Atletico last year

The outlet says that Hojbjerg was left disappointed last year when his proposed transfer to the Metropolitano Stadium did not materialise, with the La Liga club said to have maintained contact with the player’s entourage since then.

Diego Simeone’s side are now expected to make another move for Hojbjerg, having freed up space in the wage bill for the Tottenham man by offloading the likes of Memphis Depay and Stefan Savic.

Finally, the publication adds that the Colchoneros will not have a free run at the 28-year-old, with Juventus, Napoli and Fenerbahce also alleged to have shown interest in the experienced midfielder.

Turkish news outlet Sabah, claimed earlier this week that former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is eager to make Hojbjerg his first signing at Fenerbahce.

Hojbjerg made the Tottenham starting eleven on just eight occasions in the Premier League last season and was brought off the bench 28 times having fallen behind the likes of Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur in the midfield pecking order.

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite Hojbjerg’s good relationship with Mourinho, I do not think he would consider moving to Fenerbache.

The decision he faces will likely be between Atletico and Napoli, and I suspect he might be leaning towards the former, given that the La Liga side has shown interest in him since a year ago.
