Report: Atletico Madrid revive talks over Hojbjerg – Spurs could get as much as £40m

The Daily Mail have claimed that Atletico Madrid have revived talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a late deal for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

On Wednesday, we relayed a report from The Times which claimed that Spurs have now been handed a late opportunity to sign Conor Gallagher after Chelsea put up the midfielder for sale.

However, the publication alleged that Tottenham are only likely to make a move for the 23-year-old if they are successful in offloading Hojbjerg.

Atletico Madrid return for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

If The Mail’s latest update is to be believed, a move to the Spanish capital before Friday night’s transfer deadline is now on the cards for Hojbjerg after Atletico renewed their talk with Spurs.

It is explained that the 28-year-old was set to join the Colchoneros earlier in the summer before the negotiations between the two clubs broke down.

The La Liga giants have now allegedly once again begun conversations with Spurs over signing the former Southampton man on loan with an obligation to make the deal permanent for around £40m.

Hojbjerg’s performance against Fulham showed why he is not a great fit for Postecoglou’s system and £40m would represent a great deal for Spurs, given that the Dane has just two years left on his contract.

However, Tottenham would undoubtedly have to replace the 28-year-old and it remains to be seen if a deal for Gallagher would be possible at this stage of the window.
