Report: Atletico Madrid set to make move for out-of-favour Spurs man

Spanish publication Fichajes have revealed that Atletico Madrid are plotting a move for Giovani Lo Celso, who is surplus to requirements at Tottenham.

Lo Celso has not had much game time since Antonio Conte arrived at Tottenham, partly due to his injury woes

Fichajes now state that the midfielder, who arrived at Spurs in 2019, has been transfer-listed by the North London club, with Conte not considering him part of his plans.

The report claims that Lo Celso’s departure is ‘imminent’, with the player intent to play regularly heading into the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

It is suggested that Spurs would be willing to cash in on the Argentine for just €32m (£26.6m), around half of what they paid for him two and a half years ago.

Diego Simeone is said to be keen on adding an attacking midfielder to his squad and is thought to have ‘fallen in love’ with Lo Celso’s quality and versatility.

The former Real Betis man is alleged to be open to returning to La Liga but it is revealed that Atletico are yet to make an official approach as they first need to move some of their players on.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Lo Celso clearly has plenty of talent, unfortunately, he has simply not clicked at Spurs. I suspect La Liga suits his style of play better than the Premier League does.

He seems to want time on the ball and is often disposed dwelling on it. While I would prefer the Argentine to stay and fight for his place, I would not be too disappointed if he is sold.
