AS have revealed that Atletico Madrid have now been alerted after Tottenham Hotspur informed various clubs that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is on the shop window.

The report backs up what we have heard from various other sources over recent months by stating that Hojbjerg’s four-year spell at Spurs is expected to come to an end this summer.

The report states that Atletico Madrid are in the market for a defensive midfielder and that the Tottenham man fits the bill for what they are looking for.

It is explained that the La Liga giants tried to complete a deal for the Dane last summer, with Diego Simeone urging the club’s hierarchy to secure the 28-year-old.

However, an agreement could not be reached at the time and Atletico are now expected to try again to see if a deal is possible this summer.

Atletico Madrid still like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

The outlet reveals that the Colchoneros had already started looking at various other names but when Hojbjerg has ‘hit the market’, their plans have changed.

The Spanish side now feel that the former Southampton star is potentially ‘within range’ for them, with the experienced midfielder said to have all the attributes that Simeone is looking for.

Spurs Web Opinion

One would expect the race for Hojbjerg’s signature to heat up over the coming weeks, with Atletico likely to be joined by a few Serie A sides, potentially Milan, Juve and Napoli.

However, I can see the Dane thriving in Simeone’s system and he would likely be quite tempted by the chance to move to Metropolitano Stadium.
