Report: Attack-minded left-back emerges as an option for Spurs

Benfica left-back Alex Grimaldo is reportedly a potential option for Tottenham Hotspur this summer according to Football.London.

The 24-year-old, who is primarily known for his ability to get forward and create chances, has registered seven assists in all competitions this campaign (transfermarkt).

Portuguese news outlet A Bola claim that Spurs sent their scouts to Portugal to watch Grimaldo in action in December, with the player rumoured to have a £55million release clause in his contract.

Spurs could potentially be without one of their senior left-backs come the start of next season with the North Londoners said to be prepared to sell Danny Rose to Newcastle United on a permanent deal (Northern Echo).

Spurs Web Opinion

Danny Rose is almost certainly on his way out of the club and so we will need to replace him in the summer. Grimaldo would be a good squad addition as he will offer more going forward than Ben Davies but I worry that the Spaniard may not be good enough defensively for the Premier League.
