Report: AVB ‘close’ to beating Spurs to signing of highly-rated left-back

Andre Villas-Boas may be set to get one over his former employers as reports indicate that Marseille are looking to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Pervis Estupinan.

Estupinan is yet to make a first-team appearance for Watford since signing for the club in 2016. After previously completing loan spells in La Liga with Almeri and Mallorca, the left-back has been loaned out to Osasuna this campaign, where he has come into his own.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made an enquiry to the Hornets about the defender’s availability (Sport).

The North Londoners were reportedly set to compete with Manchester United for the Ecuadorian international’s signature when the transfer market opens in the summer (AS via Sport Witness).

However, according to a report in Area Napoli (as translated by TBR Football), Marseille and Villas-Boas have won the race. It is suggested that the left-back’s move to the Orange Velodrome is now imminent.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Jose seems to have a lot of faith in Ben Davies, and has revealed his plan to promote Dennis Cirkin to the first-team next season, I cannot see us being in the market for a left-back this summer. It is clear that another central defender and a right-back are bigger priorities for us as far as defensive reinforcements are concerned.
