Report: Bad news for Tottenham in pursuit of Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher

The Daily Mail have claimed that Conor Gallagher will stay put at Chelsea after being priced out of a deadline-day move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Over the last 24 hours, multiple outlets claimed that Spurs are planning to offload Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and make a late move to sign Gallagher (The Times).

The Guardian even asserted on Thursday evening that amidst Tottenham’s late interest, there was a ‘strong chance’ that the 23-year-old would leave Stamford Bridge before the window slammed shut.

Gallagher will stay put despite Tottenham attempts

The Mail have now asserted that Spurs’ pursuit of the centre-midfielder is now over as they were only willing to offer £40m while the Blues valued the player at £45m.

The outlet explained that Gallagher did weigh up his future after the arrival of Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia at the West London club.

However, the England international is said to be happy to remain at his boyhood club and fight for his place this season.

I do not think it is been the £5m difference in valuation that is the stumbling block. The issue probably is the club’s inability to get Hojbjerg out of the door. Unless something drastically changes over the next few hours regarding the Dane, it would seem that Tottenham’s pursuit of Gallagher is over.
