Report: Bale set to defy Zidane after meeting over future

Various reports over the last few months have suggested that this is likely to be Gareth Bale’s final season at Real Madrid (AS).

The Welshman is not a popular figure in the Spanish capital at the moment and has even been jeered off the pitch by his own supporters this season.

His relationship with Zinedine Zidane was said to be frosty towards the end of the Frenchman’s first stint at the club, and it has reportedly not improved since his return to the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to a report in The Daily Mail, Bale was told by his manager in a meeting that he is no longer part of his plans and that he is free to leave the club in the summer.

However, now The Metro now reports that the former Spurs man will refuse to leave the club in the summer despite being told he is unwanted and is determined to see out his contract with the Spanish giants.

Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett, who has been quite outspoken in his defence of his client this season, said: “He wants to stay. I am not sure that Mr Zidane wants him to stay but at the moment Gareth wants to stay.

“He has got a contract, he will quite happily see it out until 2022. He has been and is, in my opinion, one of the top three or four players in the world.

“This game is a game of opinions and Mr Zidane doesn’t think that. That is his opinion, he is entitled to it, I won’t criticise him.”

Based on what is being said here, it appears as if Bale does not wish to take a pay-cut. It is highly unlikely that Tottenham will be able to match the wages he is getting at Madrid given their wage structure, which thus makes a move to Manchester United or PSG far more likely for the former Tottenham man.
