Report: Barca lining up rumoured Spurs target as potential Messi’s replacement

According to Sunday’s print edition of Tuttosport (as relayed by The Daily Mail), Barcelona are lining up Juventus forward Paulo Dybala as the man to replace Lionel Messi should the Argentine leave the club this summer.

Tottenham famously came close to landing Dybala last summer (Independent) but since the collapsed transfer, the Argentine has gone from strength to strength, becoming a regular in the Juve side and even taking home the Serie A Player of the Season award.

Gazzetta dello Sport (via The Express) reported last week that Tottenham could rekindle their interest in Dybala this summer, with the Old Lady rumoured to be ready to listen to offers for the 26-year-old.

Tuttosport (via Daily Mail) now report that the former Palermo man is no closer to agreeing on a new contract with the Turin-based outfit.

The report asserts that he is demanding a salary of £13.5million-per-season after-tax (£260,000-per-week) in order to put pen to paper on a new deal.

It is claimed that the Serie A champions could decide to sell him, with Barca ready to pounce if Messi puts in a transfer request this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Any Spurs fan who still thinks we have a chance of signing Dybala is living in dreamland. We missed out on our big chance last summer when he was available for a relatively modest fee. Not only is his asking price likely to have gone up on the back of the season that the Argentine has had but I doubt we would be willing to meet his salary demands either.
