Reports emerging from Spain have revealed that Phillipe Coutinho had agreed to a transfer to Spurs last summer, only for negotiations between Barcelona and Tottenham to collapse.
Coutinho was linked heavily with a move to Spurs last summer after he found himself surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou (AS). However, the former Liverpool star ended up making a move to Bayern Munich on loan instead.
Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) have now revealed that the Brazilian was open to a return to the Premier League last summer and gave his approval to a Tottenham move, only for it to fall through.
The report claims that there is once again expected to be considerable interest from the Premier League for the 27-year-old this summer.
It is asserted that another season-long loan move away from Catalonia is the most likely scenario for Coutinho in the summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
While I would have been extremely excited to have landed Coutinho last summer, I don’t expect us to go in for him again as I just don’t see him as a Mourinho-type signing. Besides, we are fairly well stocked in attacking midfield areas at the moment and our priority has to be signing a defensive midfielder and addressing the issues with the backline.
