According to a report by Spanish outlet Eldesmarque, Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs including Spurs.
The report claims that Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal have made their interest in the 26-year-old known. It is suggested that Barcelona want Umtiti gone as soon as possible and are willing to sell him on a cut-price deal this month.
The French international has featured just five times for the Catalan giants in La Liga this season due to injury problems (transfermarkt) and the report suggests that his time at the Camp Nou is now about to come to an end.
Spurs have had major problems in defence since the start of the season and those have continued to persist under Jose Mourinho.
While Toby Alderweireld has committed his long term future with the club, it is not yet clear what Mourinho’s first-choice centre back pairing is with Jan Vertonghen out of contract in North London at the end of the current season.
Spurs Web Opinion
Despite Alderweireld signing a long term deal, it is clear that we still need to add one more experienced centre half to the squad particularly if Vertonghen isn’t given an extension. While Umtiti is a top defender, his injury record is worrying. The last thing we need is another injury-prone player given the fact that we have a relatively thin squad.
