Report: Barcelona star has offer ‘on the table’ from Spurs – Willing to pay £14.4m

Tottenham Hotspur have now ‘officially’ stepped up their pursuit of Memphis Depay ‘in the last few hours’, according to Spanish publication Sport,

After their big-money capture of Richarlison from Everton, Spurs have an embarrassment of riches in the forward areas, with the Brazilian joining the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura.

However, that has not stopped Spurs from being heavily linked with a move for Depay over recent weeks (Ekrem Konur).

Sport have now claimed that Tottenham have made advances towards the Dutchman over recent hours, with the striker now having an offer from Antonio Conte’s men ‘on the table’.

However, it is explained that the Netherlands international is not particularly keen on returning to the Premier League this summer.

Sport add that Barca are keen to get rid of Depay since he is not in Xavi Hernadez’s plans for the upcoming season.

Spurs are not thought to be ready to meet the Catalan club’s valuation of €20m (£17m) for the player, with the north London club only said to be willing to offer €17m (£14.4m) for the striker.

A number of Serie A clubs are said to be monitoring Depay but the report suggests that they are put off by Barca’s asking price.

Sevilla are also credited with an interest in the former Manchester United man but the striker is not said to be convinced by the idea of joining Julen Lopetegui’s side.

Even if Conte was keen on adding another striker to his forward line, I do not think this move would make any sense for Depay. Despite Tottenham’s involvement in four competitions, the Dutchman will hardly get any game time, given the options that Conte has at his disposal.
