Report: Barcelona are eyeing Spurs player as an alternative to 31-year-old target

Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Barcelona are eyeing Sergio Reguilon as an alternative to Chelsea star Marcos Alonso this summer.

Reguilon’s time at Spurs looks set to come to an end this summer, with the North Londoners signing Ivan Perisic to compete with Ryan Sessegnon for the left wing-back role.

The Spaniard, who did not fly to South Korea with the Tottenham squad for pre-season, is thought to be of interest to both Juventus (CalcioMecatoWeb) and Sevilla (Football Insider).

90min reported last week that the Tottenham full-back would prefer to return to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, where he spent the 2019/20 season on loan before joining Spurs.

However, if Mundo Deportivo’s latest update is to be believed, Barca are also monitoring the 25-year-old.

The report explains that Alonso remains the Catalan giants’ top target but with negotiations with Chelsea now slowing down, they are considering other alternatives.

Xavi Hernandez is also said to be a fan of Celta Vigo’s Javi Galan but a deal for the 27-year-old is ‘complicated’ this summer.

Barca are thus alleged to have their eye on Reguilon, who was reportedly offered to the club by Spurs and the left-back’s agent Kia Joorabchian.

The fact that the former Real Madrid man is likely to be a ‘low cost’ option reportedly appeals to Barcelona.

Spurs Web Opinion

There seems to be no shortage of interest in either Emerson or Reguilon, which is understandable, given that both players are quite competent full-backs in a back four. Spurs will be hoping to get a bidding war going for the Spaniard over the coming weeks.
