Report: Barcelona are now eyeing move for Spurs-linked centre-back

Mundo Deportivo have revealed that Barcelona are considering a move for Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar, who has also been linked with Tottenham.

Plenty has been written about Skriniar’s future recently, with the centre-back’s current contract at the San Siro running out next summer (Transfermarkt).

FCInterNews claimed last month that Spurs could look to swoop for the Slovak in January if he does not agree on a new deal with Inter before then.

The Sun subsequently claimed that Antonio Conte’s men could face competition from Manchester City and Chelsea for the defender’s signature.

Gianluca Di Marzio said last week that Inter do plan on offering the 27-year-old a new contract worth €6m-€6.5m (£5.2m-£5.7m) a year but the journalist added that it remains to be seen whether the player will agree to such a deal (Sempre Inter).

If Mundo Deportivo’s latest update is to be believed, Barca are eyeing Skriniar as a potential replacement for Gerrard Pique, whose days at Camp Nou are numbered.

The report states that the Catalan giants want to sign the Inter star on a free transfer and see him as ‘a top-level option’ to improve their backline.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Skriniar would be an upgrade on Davinson Sanchez and so, one would expect Spurs to show interest in the Slovak, especially if he is available on a free transfer. The fact that the 27-year-old is already familiar with Conte’s system, is also a bonus.
