Report: Barcelona ‘confirm’ they are in Coutinho talks with Premier League club

There are increasing reports that Tottenham Hotspur could be set to welcome Philippe Coutinho to North London on loan ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

A report from Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Barcelona are currently in negotiations with a Premier League club over a possible deal.

Tottenham are said to have shown the most interest in the Brazilian playmaker with Mauricio Pochettino having maintained a good relationship with Barcelona’s sporting director Ramón Planas and director of football Eric Abidal.

A return to the Premier League remains Coutinho’s preferred destination for the upcoming season but time is certainly ticking with the transfer window closing for English clubs at 5pm on Thursday.

Pochettino and Coutinho have previously worked briefly together while at Espanyol.

The Times suggests that Barcelona are looking to receive a £21million fee in order to loan him out, though, while Spurs may have to cover his £200,000-a-week salary.

Opinion

Coutinho would certainly help to fill the void if Christian Eriksen is to complete a move to Manchester United. One thing is for certain, the transfer window is never a dull time for Spurs fans.
