Report: Barcelona considering making swap offer to Spurs for 25-year-old

According to journalist Gerard Romero (as relayed by Fichajes), Barcelona could offer Memphis Depay to Tottenham in a straight swap deal for Sergio Reguilon.

Reguilon is evidently surplus to requirements for Antonio Conte, with the Spaniard having played no part in the Italian’s pre-season preparations.

Over recent weeks, the 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Sevilla (Football Insider), having already spent a season on loan at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium in 2019/20.

Last week, Mundo Deportivo revealed Barcelona are eyeing Reguilon as an alternative to Chelsea star Marcos Alonso but this was subsequently dismissed by Sport, who stated the Catalan giants would not move for the Spurs man due to his connections with Real Madrid.

However, according to Romero’s latest update, Barca are ready to push ahead with a move for Reguilon, with an addition at left-back being the club’s next priority.

The journalist added that instead of paying a transfer fee for the Spain international, Xavi Hernandez’s men could propose a straight swap with Depay, who they are said to be keen to move on.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think this proposed swap deal would make sense for Spurs as I do not see where Depay would fit in after the club’s capture of Richarlison. Even if Spurs were interested in the Barca striker, I do not think the Dutchman would want to join the club as he will know that his game time will be extremely limited.
