Report: Barcelona considering move for attacker allegedly wanted by Conte

According to Sport, Barcelona are considering a move for Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Spurs are expected to prioritise a deal for Martinez when the transfer window reopens in the summer, with Antonio Conte thought to be keen on reuniting with the Argentine international (Inter Live).

Corriere dello Sport (13/04/22 via Sport Witness) have claimed Inter are thought to be open to cashing in on the 24-year-old for a fee of around €70m-€80m (£57.9m-£66.2m).

If Sport’s latest update is to be believed, Martinez is also on Barca’s wishlist ahead of the summer.

The report explains that the Catalan giants came very close to snapping up the Inter star two years ago but the deal fell through due to the emergence of the pandemic and its subsequent financial impact.

Martinez is said to be on the market this summer and it is suggested that Barca could look to complete a part-exchange deal, with the Serie A club thought to be interested in Memphis Depay and Miralem Pjanic.

However, it is said that the Inter star is not a ‘priority’ for Barca, who are also assessing other forward options in the market.

Sport do not mention Spurs in their report but they name Atletico Madrid as being contenders for Martinez’s signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt about Martinez’s talent but it remains to be seen if Spurs would be willing to spend the majority of their transfer budget on a forward when we are in more desperate need of reinforcements in other areas of the pitch like a wing-back, centre-back and midfield.
