Report: Barcelona considering move for wing-back linked with Tottenham

According to Sky Germany, Barcelona are considering a move for VfB Stuttgart full-back Borna Sosa, who is also thought to be wanted by Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs are expected to be in the market for a left wing-back this summer, with Antonio Conte reportedly having given the green light for the club to cash in on Sergio Reguilon (Football Insider).

Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk claimed in February that Sosa is one of the names on Tottenham’s wishlist, with the club said to be facing competition from London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal for the 22-year-old.

The Croatian international has demonstrated his attacking prowess at the Mercedes-Benz Arena this season, with eight assists to his name in all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

If Sky Germany’s latest update is to be believed, Barcelona could also enter the race for Sosa ahead of the summer.

The report reveals that a delegation from the Catalan giants was in attendance to watch the left-back in action as Stuttgart took on Borussia Dortmund over the weekend.

It is asserted that Barca view Sosa as a potential replacement for Jordi Alba and that there is a €25m (£20.8m) release clause in the Stuttgart star’s contract.

I do expect Spurs to strengthen both wing-back departments in the summer and Sosa certainly fits the bill for Conte’s system, given his impressive delivery and his ability to take players on.

However, there would be some risk involved in signing the Croat as it is unclear how he will adapt to the intensity and physicality of the Premier League, where most wingers and full-backs are strong and quick.
