Spanish publication Sport have revealed that Barcelona are considering terminating the contract of rumoured Tottenham target Samuel Umtiti.
Umtiti has not played a single minute this season either for Ronald Koeman or Xavi. The French international, who has been hampered by injury problems over the last few years, was previously alleged to be on Tottenham’s radar.
It was reported during the summer transfer window that Barcelona tried their best to move the central defender on.
Sport have now revealed that the Catalan giants are analysing options to pay off the defender and relieve him of his current contract, which runs until the summer of 2023.
The report explains that Barca hope to convince the defender that at just 28 years of age, he could restart his career if he gets the right move.
Given Tottenham’s previous interest in Umtiti, it remains to be seen whether the Frenchman potentially being available on a free would alert the North Londoners.

While one can argue that we need a left-footed centre-back to compete with Ben Davies, Umtiti is certainly not the answer. The 28-year-old’s injury record over the last three years would make him a very risky signing.
