Report: Barcelona contemplating sale of Spurs-linked defender

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo (as relayed by Sport Witness), Barcelona are considering cashing in on rumoured Spurs target Emerson this summer.

Emerson is currently on loan at Real Betis, who own 50% of the player. However, Barcelona have the option to purchase him for €9m, both this summer as well as next summer.

The Sun first reported Tottenham’s interest in the right-back in April, while Diario de Sevilla revealed in May that the Nou Camp outfit may sell the full-back this summer on the back of the impressive season he has had at the Benito Villamarin Stadium.

The report claims that Tottenham have expressed an interest in signing the 21-year-old when the transfer window opens.

The North Londoners are reportedly facing competition from Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle United and Everton to land the Brazilian.

The report reveals that although the full-back’s intention is to eventually establish himself as first-choice at Barcelona, he has not ruled out the possibility of leaving the Catalan giants ahead of next season.

Spurs Web Opinion

We have been linked with a lot of right-backs this summer and it is difficult to tell who is near the top of the club’s wish list. Emerson certainly fits the bill in terms of the profile of player we need to play in the right wing-back role under the current system we employ. However, I am convinced that Timothy Castagne would be the ideal choice for us based on the price he is available for as well as the attributes he possesses.
