Report: Barcelona could step up interest in Spurs-linked striker

According to a report in Ole, Barcelona could be about to step up their interest in River Plate striker Julian Alvarez, who is also alleged to be on Tottenham’s radar ahead of January.

Alvarez looks to be fast becoming one of the best-attacking talents to come out of Argentina in a long time, with the striker continuing to be prolific in front of goal in the Primera Division.

The 21-year-old has scored 17 goals and provided 7 assists in 20 league games so far this campaign and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Tottenham are one of the clubs alleged to be following the striker’s progress ahead of the January transfer window, with previous reports claiming that Spurs face competition from the likes of AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa for La Albiceleste star.

If Ole are to be believed, Barcelona are now contemplating making a move for Alvarez after the recent injury to Memphis Depay.

It is explained that the River Plate man has been on the Catalan club’s radar for a long time but they could now be about to step up their pursuit of the player.

The report claims that Alvarez has a release clause of €20m (£17m) in his contract, which Barca are thought to be ready to meet.

Spurs Web Opinion

I certainly would not lose any sleep over Spurs losing out in the race for Alvarez. While the 21-year-old is clearly very talented, I believe it would be too big a risk to bring him to the Premier League straight from South American football.
