Report: Barcelona make player heavily linked with Spurs their number one target

Barcelona are attempting to complete a deal to bring Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose to the Camp Nou before the end of the season.

According to a report in Marca, Barca have identified Jose, who was linked heavily with a move to Spurs last month (The Sun), as the man to replace the injured Ousmane Dembele who has suffered a ruptured thigh (Daily Mail).

It is suggested that the La Liga giants will try to obtain approval from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF)’s to sign a Spanish-based replacement for Dembele, which Spanish clubs are allowed to do outside the transfer window in case of long-term injuries to players.

However, they will first have to wait until the French international undergoes surgery on Tuesday in order to receive confirmation of how long he is expected to be sidelined for.

Jose admitted that he wanted to swap Sociedad for Tottenham last month but the deal collapsed after the two clubs failed to agree on a transfer fee (Evening Standard).

It appears that the 28-year-old could yet get his wish of a departure from the Anoeta Stadium after Quique Setién’s side made him their number one transfer target, although Sociedad are expected to make a move difficult for Barcelona.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Barcelona are interested in Jose suggests that Tottenham were right to target him last month. In the end, it looks like Spurs decided that the striker wasn’t worth the transfer fee Sociedad were demanding. It will be interesting to see how the Brazilian does at the Catalan capital if he does complete the move.
