Report: Barcelona enter race for Spurs-linked central defender

Tottenham Hotspur may have to replace a senior central defender in the next six months, as Jan Vertonghen inches towards a North London exit.

Vertonghen can now talk to non-English clubs about a potential pre-contract agreement ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

Spurs have been linked with Napoli centre-back, Kalidou Koulibaly, in the past month, with one report from El Desmarque even stating that the two clubs were already in talks.

Not only this, but Napoli were said to be keen on signing Vertonghen from Spurs (Sky Sports).

Le10Sport have now added that Barcelona have joined the race to sign the big-name 28-year-old and are thinking of making an offer to Napoli.

The club are said to be keen on adding to their defensive options, but they may have to consider freeing up funds first.

Koulibaly has played 232 games for Napoli across six seasons, scoring ten goals in that time, as well as playing 38 times for his national side Senegal (Wikipedia).
