Report: Barcelona fear they will not receive £17m for Spurs-linked Memphis Depay

AS report that Barcelona fear they will not be able to attain the £17 million asking price set on Memphis Depay, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham.

The report states the Blaugrana are willing to offload the Dutchman this summer with the club’s attacking options looking congested, but are concerned no clubs will meet their transfer valuation.

It adds Barca have told Depay he will be made available for transfer with Xavi set to add Leeds winger Raphinha to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres and Ousmane Dembele, who recently extended his contract.

The update comes after Sport claimed Tottenham have initiated contact with Barcelona about a deal for Depay, although the 28-year-old is not thought to be keen on a move

Ekrem Konur reported this week that Spurs were planning to send a £17m bid to Barcelona for the former Manchester United forward.

Depay joined Barcelona last summer on a free transfer from Lyon and started his debut campaign brightly before his season tailed off.

He notched 13 goals across all competitions (Transfermarkt) with the majority coming in the first half of the season after which point he was used sparingly by Xavi.

Tottenham do not necessarily need Depay given they have already strengthened up top with Richarlison, who will be competing to break into the settled front three.

The £17 million valuation is not huge, but if Barcelona are worried about not being able to earn that, it may be something worth keeping an eye on to secure a potential snip.
