Report: Barcelona have offered player to Tottenham ahead of January

According to the print edition of The Sunday Mirror (19/12, p66), Barcelona have offered Tottenham the chance to sign Philippe Coutinho.

Since his big-money move to Barcelona in January 2018, Coutinho has struggled to hit the same heights that he did during his time in the Premier League with Liverpool.

The 29-year-old continues to struggle for regular game time at the Camp Nou, having made just a handful of starts this season.

The Mirror claim that Barca are looking to cash in on Coutinho in January in order to fund a move for Manchester City striker Ferran Torres.

The Catalan giants are thought to be keen on getting the midfielder’s salary off their wage bill and are thus actively trying to push him out of the club.

Barcelona have allegedly offered the former Liverpool man to both Spurs and Newcastle United ahead of January. However, the report explains that the Brazilian is not interested in a move to St James’ Park.

I am not convinced that Coutinho would be an upgrade on the likes of Ndombele or Dele, given the Brazilian’s struggles over the last years. His salary would also be a huge problem for Spurs.
