Report: Barcelona intensify interest in Spurs-linked striker

According to ESPN, Barcelona are set to intensify their efforts to sign Darwin Nunez who Spurs reportedly decided against moving for in the summer.

Nunez had a prolific 19/20 season for Spanish second division side Almeria and Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a move for the 21-year-old when they looked for a striker to serve as a back up to Harry Kane (Football.London).

The Daily Mail claimed back in September that Jose Mourinho considered the Uruguayan international as an option but decided to pass up the opportunity to sign him.

Nunez instead sealed a move to Benfica at the start of last month and Tottenham ended up signing Carlos Vinicius from the Portuguese side on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

The young striker has had an impressive start to life at the Estadio da Luz, notching up four goals and five assists already for the Portuguese giants (transfermarkt.com).

Benfica manager, Jorge Jesus has already insisted that the striker is destined for the top (Sport TV via Goal.com).

ESPN claim that Barcelona have identified Nunez as the man to replace Luiz Suarez and could make an offer for him in the January transfer window.
