Report: Barcelona interested in signing Spurs player on loan with option to buy

According to Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham winger Bryan Gil is of interest to Barcelona ahead of the January transfer window.

Gil arrived at Tottenham over the summer, with the North London club paying £21.6m plus Erik Lamela for the 20-year-old.

The youngster has not quite hit the ground running at Spurs and is yet to start a single Premier League game for the club.

The Spanish international has shown glimpses of his quality on a few occasions but he failed to impress when he was handed his first start under Antonio Conte in the Europa Conference League clash against NS Mura.

Mundo Deportivo have now revealed that Barcelona boss Xavi wants to add a winger to his squad in January and the Tottenham man is one of the players who fit the profile that the Catalan giants are looking for.

The La Liga club are thought to be after a loan signing with an option to buy and it is stated that such a deal might be possible with Gil after his struggles to adapt to English football.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gil does not look ready for the Premier League but at 20 years of age, he has plenty of time to improve. The youngster should not be judged too harshly as he was arguably not brought in to be an immediate starter.

I cannot see Spurs cutting their losses on the winger so soon after buying him. Even against Mura, I thought he was one of the few players who was trying the hardest and he was far from our worst player on the night.
