Report: Barcelona line up ‘controversial’ move for £27.5m Spurs man

Barcelona are reportedly targeting Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon ahead of a potential transfer this summer, according to the Mirror.

Reguilon has slipped down the Spurs pecking order behind Ryan Sessegnon in recent weeks having struggled to shake off a niggling groin injury.

The fate of the Spanish international’s season will be learned this week, with Football Insider revealing that he underwent scans on Tuesday to find out the seriousness of the problem.

But the rest of Reguilon’s campaign is not the only uncertainty, with the Evening Standard recently reporting he is one of several players Tottenham are willing to listen to offers for this summer.

The Mirror claims the former Sevilla loanee is the subject of transfer speculation from Barcelona, who are now interested in signing the left-back.

The report states the Blaugrana have shortlisted Reguilon alongside Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso as prime targets to bolster their defensive options this summer.

However, Barcelona’s interest in the 25-year-old has also been noted as ‘controversial’ given his ties to arch-rivals Real Madrid before he moved to Tottenham.

Reguilon’s switch to Spurs also came with a buy-back clause worth £27.5 million lasting two years, with the upcoming transfer window being the La Liga champions’ final opportunity to activate it (Football.London).

Spurs Web Opinion

Reguilon has had his challenges in his two years at Spurs so it wouldn’t be too surprising if Spurs were looking at cashing in on him this summer.

Barcelona could be a good move for him considering they are after a left-back in particular, but it could come down to whether he wants that switch after his history with Real.
