Report: Barcelona made enquiry over availability of Spurs’ £25m man

Ryan Sessegnon has not had the start to his Tottenham career he would have hoped for after completing a £25 million move from Fulham last summer (ESPN).

The 20-year-old was starting to feature regularly before the suspension of the Premier League but he has not featured since the restart.

Reports now suggest that Barcelona are now prepared to offer an exit route from North London for the youngster this summer.

The Daily Star previously claimed that Spurs had made it clear to the Catalan giants that the England Under-21 international is not for sale this summer.

However, Sky Sports now suggest that the La Liga giants still have not given up on their pursuit of Sessegnon.

Barca have reportedly been long-term admirers of Sessegnon, having sent scouts to watch him in action on more than one occasion during the 2017-18 season, when Fulham won promotion to the Premier League.

It is said that his slow start to life at Spurs has not dented the Catalan’s interest in signing the left-sided player.

The Nou Camp outfit have reportedly expressed their interest to Tottenham and hope that a swap deal can be done.

It is asserted that Barcelona are willing to consider the likes of Nelson Semedo or Samuel Umtiti in a swap deal for Sessegnon.

Spurs Web Opinion

Mourinho spoke very positively about Sessegnon before the lockdown and so it has been perplexing to see him not get any game time since the restart. Jose’s recent praise for Cirkin might perhaps be a message that he is sending to Sessegnon about the need to raise his game in order to get his opportunities.

Perhaps Sessegnon is bulking up and Jose and the coaching staff are working with him on the defensive side of his game. If that is the case, we should see him being more involved next season. If not, I believe we should seriously consider loaning the 20-year-old out to a Premier League club.
