Report: Barcelona make decision to loan out Spurs target in January

According to a report in Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona hierarchy have decided to loan out midfielder Carlos Alena in the January transfer window as they feel he needs first-team football in order to develop.

Tottenham are said to be the front runners for the 21-year-old with Mauricio Pochettino reportedly a long-time admirer of the Spaniard. It is claimed that the Spurs manager has even personally seen the youngster play live and is keen to work with him.

A report last week by Mundo Deportivo (as relayed by SportWitness) claimed that Spurs were keen to sign Alena permanently even back in the summer but that Barcelona are unwilling to let the talented youngster leave without a buy-back clause.

It was asserted that the Catalan giants could consider selling Alena and other fringe players in January as they are in need of raising funds.

However, the latest report seems to confirm that they have now decided that loaning him out would be the right approach.

Alena is clearly talented and if Pochettino sees something in him, then we should certainly back our manager. However, I cannot see Spurs accepting a loan deal or a permanent deal with a buy-back clause and for that reason, I believe this deal is unlikely to happen in January.
