Report: Barcelona now leading the race for centre-back linked with Spurs

Spanish publication Sport have revealed that Barcelona are leading the race to sign Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, who is thought to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Christensen’s future at Chelsea remains in the air, with the centre-back’s current deal at Stamford Bridge running out at the end of the season.

The Daily Star reported last month that the 25-year-old could leave Chelsea as a free agent in the summer and that Spurs had joined in the race for his signature.

The report revealed the North London club faced competition from the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, AC Milan and Barcelona for the defender.

If Sport’s latest update is to be believed, Barca have now moved to the front of the queue for Christensen’s signature.

The report reveals the Denmark international does not intend to renew his contract at Chelsea and the Catalan club have been in talks with the player’s entourage for weeks.

It is asserted that Barca will try to strike a pre-contract agreement with Christensen so they can land him for free in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Christensen would be a natural fit for Conte’s back three and he would be a much more realistic target for Spurs than Antonio Rudiger.

However, the big question is whether the Dane would be willing to risk the ire of Chelsea fans by making a move across London, particularly when he has other lucrative options to choose from.
