Report: Barcelona prepared to let rumoured Spurs target leave for £27m this summer

According to a report in Sport, Barcelona are now prepared to sell Samuel Umtiti for just €30 million in the summer.

Although Umtiti has been a key player for Barca during his time at the club, he has spent a considerable amount of time on the treatment table over recent years and has thus seen himself fall down the pecking order.

The French international has been linked with a move to Tottenham since January (Eldesmarque) and he is also said to be on Arsenal’s radar (AS).

Sky Sports claimed last month that Barcelona had offered Umtiti and Nelson Semedo to Spurs in exchange for Tanguy Ndombele, but reports have made it clear that the Lilywhites have no intention of letting the midfielder leave (PA Sport journalist Jonathan Veal).

Sport now reveals that Barcelona have reduced Umtiti’s asking price to €30 million as they need an injection of cash in order to sign Inter Milan striker, Lautaro Martinez.

The report suggests that the Catalan giants could even offer the World Cup winner to Inter in order to bring the asking price for Martinez down.

It is asserted that the 26-year-old would prefer a move to the Premier League if he is to leave the Camp Nou this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

In many respects, this seems like a perfect deal given that Umtiti is still only 26 years of age and available for a relatively low price. He certainly has the attributes required to shine in the Premier League and be the ideal replacement for Jan Vertonghen. However, his injury record is extremely worrying and thus signing him would be a huge gamble. For that reason, I don’t expect us to make an offer for the Frenchman.
