Report: Barcelona preparing send 20-year-old previously linked with Spurs out on loan

Young Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig is said to have previously rejected the advances of Tottenham Hotspur in the past (Catalunya Radio).

Great things are expected of the La Masia graduate at Barcelona with Spurs having said to have bee keen to take him under the Catalan’s noses for a long time, according to various reports.

Spanish publication Sport first linked Tottenham with a move for Puig back in the summer of 2018.

The Lilywhites are said to have returned for the youngster’s services last summer but it was revealed that the midfielder turned down their offer and opted to fight for a place at Barcelona (CCMA).

Puig might have come to regret that decision as he has barely featured for the current La Liga champions this campaign and instead has been plying his trade for Barcelona B (transfermarkt).

It could turn out to be third time lucky for Tottenham in their pursuit of the 20-year-old with Sport reporting that Barcelona are planning to send the 20-year-old out on loan next season.

The report credits unnamed Premier League teams with interest in the midfielder and going by Tottenham’s previous interest in Puig, it would be reasonable to assume Jose Mourinho’s side are one of the contenders.

However, the youngster is also said to be attracting interest from the likes of Real Zaragoza, Real Betis, Celta Vigo, Granada, and Ajax.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can’t see this transfer working out because I believe Barcelona will likely want to loan Puig out to a La Liga side rather than somewhere like Spurs, where he isn’t likely to get as many minutes. Additionally, I just can’t see Daniel Levy agreeing to a loan deal without an option to buy at the end of it.
