Report: Barcelona remain interested in player Spurs signed this summer

According to a report from Spanish publication Fichajes, Tottenham new boy, Cristian Romero remains a target for Barcelona after the Calatan club missed out on the defender this summer.

Tottenham snapped up Romero on an initial loan deal this summer, with the North London club having the option to make the purchase permanent for €55m (£47m) including add-ons.

Spurs will be hoping the 23-year-old settles quickly into life in North London and produces the kind of performances that saw him scoop the Serie A Defender of the Year award during his loan spell at Atalanta last season.

The Lilywhites beat out competition from Barcelona to snap up the central defender this summer.

However, if Fichajes’s latest update is to be believed, Romero continues to be of interest to Ronald Koeman’s side.

The report claims that Barca are on the lookout for a new central defender and have not given up on the Argentina international despite his move to Spurs.

It is asserted that the La Liga giants could make a move for the defender if he continues to impress at Tottenham this season.

If Romero impresses sufficiently this season, Spurs will obviously activate the option to buy him permanently.

There is no way that Barcelona can offer the kind of money that would tempt the North London club into selling Romero, particularly given the La Liga club’s financial situation.

The only way the Catalan giants can get the 23-year-old is if he does not have the expected impact this season and Spurs decide that he is not worth the £47m.
