Report: Barcelona said to be mulling over Spurs offer for defender

Tottenham have reportedly made significant progress in their attempt to sign Barcelona right-back Nelson Semedo according to reports from Spain.

Spurs are said to be prioritising a defensive rebuild in the summer as Jose Mourinho attempts to rejuvenate the club’s backline (the Express).

Spanish news outlet Don Balon claim that Semedo has been a long-term target for Tottenham and could leave the Catalan giants at the end of the season.

The report reveals that the Lilywhites tried to sign the full-back last summer but were rebuffed in their attempts.

It is suggested that the Spurs head coach is a keen admirer of the Portuguese international and is keen to bring him to North London.

Spurs are said to have already offered €45 million to sign the 26-year-old in the summer, an offer which Barca are currently said to be considering.

The defender is reportedly keen to leave the Camp Nou and begin a fresh challenge next season, and it is suggested that Tottenham could be his most likely next destination.

Serge Aurier has been the regular right-back since Mourinho took over as manager, but there are questions over his defensive abilities.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Serge Aurier has improved considerably this season, we still need to bring in a right back to compete with him next season. It doesn’t look as if Jose believes Walker-Peters is ready and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the youngster sold in the summer. Samedo would be a good option to have given that he is much defensively reliable than Aurier although he might not offer as much as former PSG man going forward.
