Report: Barcelona think they were used to get a better deal from Tottenham

Sport have now explained that Barcelona are of the belief that Lucas Bergvall’s agent used their interest strategically in order to get a better offer from Tottenham for his client.

Over the last week, there has been a major inquest by the Spanish press on the reasons why Tottenham were able to beat Barca to the services of Bergvall on transfer deadline day.

Some sources have suggested in the last few days that it was simply down to Spurs offering more money and promising the teenager that he would go straight into their first team (Matteo Moretto).

A couple of days ago, Fussball.News suggested that the Swede’s decision was down to Xavi’s sudden announcement that he would be leaving the La Liga giants at the end of the season.

It was explained that the player had even completed a medical at Camp Nou but doubts started creeping in after Xavi’s decision before Tottenham swopped in and convinced the youngster about their project.

How Tottenham beat Barcelona to Lucas Bergvall

Sport have now offered another perspective, insisting that one of the main reasons why Bergvall chose Spurs is because his agent asked for double the commission of what Barca offered.

They say that the midfielder also demanded a salary in line with the first-team players at the Blaugrana, which they had no intention of offering since the club wanted to include the teenager as part of their youth side initially rather than their senior squad.

Interestingly, the outlet states that at Barca, they believe that Bergvall’s agent made their interest public in order to tactically put pressure on Tottenham to meet their financial demands.

The publication accuses the midfielder’s entourage of ‘working secretly’ with the Premier League side, with the Catalan side feeling ‘used’ by the youngster’s representatives.

One can certainly sense a lot of sour grapes from the Barcelona-based press and Barca fans after losing out to Tottenham on Bergvall, which only makes the 18-year-old’s capture even sweeter for the North London side.
