Report: Barcelona ‘very optimistic’ of signing player wanted by Spurs

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are confident of sealing the signing of Memphis Depay, who is also reportedly a target for Tottenham.

Depay, who has enjoyed a fabulous season for Lyon, scoring 20 goals and registering 11 assists in Ligue 1 last season, will be a free agent when his contract expires at the end of this month.

The former Manchester United man has seemingly been on Tottenham’s radar for several years, with the North London club being linked with a move for the Dutchman as far back as 2019.

FC Inter News reported two weeks ago that Spurs were eyeing a deal for Depay, whose proposed move to Barcelona was stalling.

However, Mundo Deportivo now suggest that the Catalan giants believe they have won the race for the 27-year-old.

Ronald Koeman’s side are said to be ‘very optimistic’ that the forward is set to arrive at the Nou Camp after their latest round of talks, with negotiations between the parties now thought to be in their ‘final stretch’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Depay has developed considerably as a footballer over the last few years and were we to lose Kane this summer, he is one of the forwards I would have liked to see us go for.

Hopefully, the Kane situation does not end up being like the Berbatov one where the club sell him late in the transfer window, leaving little time to secure suitable replacements.
