Report: Barcelona view rumoured Spurs target as ideal midfield signing

Spanish publication Diario AS have claimed that Barcelona could be about to step up their efforts to sign rumoured Tottenham target, Renato Sanches, with the Catalans viewing the Portuguese star as the ideal option to bolster their midfield.

Sanchez enjoyed a terrific campaign for Lille last time out, playing a key role in their Ligue 1 title win.

He was also one of the shining lights of Portugal’s European Championships campaign which ultimately ended in disappointment as the nation fell at the round of 16 stage.

Reports from France claimed two weeks ago that Spurs were one of the clubs who held a strong interest in the 23-year-old but revealed that the Lilywhites could face competition from Arsenal and Barcelona for the player.

If the latest update from AS is to be believed, it looks as though the La Liga giants could be ready to step up their efforts to sign Sanches.

The report reveals that Ronald Koeman wants to reinforce his midfield with a powerful and dynamic player, with the Lille man fitting the profile perfectly.

The report explains that Barcelona are hoping to complete a loan deal with an obligation to buy Sanches in the future as that could potentially allow them to circumvent their current financial issues.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Tottenham’s name has only been thrown in the mix because of the Jorge Medes connection.

While reports do indicate that Paratici wants to add a central midfielder to the squad, I would be surprised if we spend big to bolster the position given the various options Nuno has at his disposal.

I expect most of our transfer budget to be used on strengthening at centre-back and right-back.
