Report: Barcelona view Tottenham man as ‘ideal’ summer signing

According to a report from Fichajes, Barcelona could make a move for Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso this summer.

Lo Celso showed plenty of promise in his first season at Tottenham after joining the club in the summer of 2019.

However, the midfielder was not able to build on his impressive start to life in North London as he endured an injury-hit campaign last time out and struggled to get a run of matches under his belt.

The midfielder put his disappointing season behind him and played a starring role for Argentina in their historic Copa America win over the summer and he will be hoping to carry that form into the new season with Spurs.

Fichajes have now suggested Barcelona could look to test Tottenham’s resolve to hold on to Lo Celso.

The report reveals that the Catalans are now looking to sign a central midfielder after securing the services of Memphis Depay, Emerson, Eric Garcia and Sergio Aguero.

With their number one target, Georginio Wijnaldum joining Paris Saint-Germain, Ronald Koeman’s side view the Argentine as the ‘ideal’ option owing to his style of play and his past experience in La Liga.

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite the disappointing season that Lo Celso endured last time out, I would be extremely surprised if Tottenham put the midfielder up for sale.

I can see him being a key player for us under Nuno as apart from his technical qualities, the midfielder also possesses the engine and tenacity demanded by the Portuguese coach’s style of play.

I believe the 25-year-old can make a big impact next season if he stays injury-free.
