Report: Barcelona will not sell Tottenham target but may loan him out in January

Tottenham Hotspur and Mauricio Pochettino were said to be keen on Barcelona youngster, Carles Alena, last week when Mundo Deportivo reported on the player.

Spurs apparently tried and failed with a summer move for the 21-year-old and were keen on making another attempt in the January window, with the player struggling for game time.

However, SPORT now claim that Barcelona are not willing to sell the player in January, but are open to loan deal. This loan would not include an option to buy at the end of the period.

It is said that the only way Barcelona may part with the player is if a club meets his staggering £65m release clause, an unlikely event.

Alena has played 35 games and scored three goals for Barca across four seasons at the club, but has appeared just once in the 2019/20 campaign (Wikipedia).

He previously played 89 games and scored 18 goals for the Barcelona B Team.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Tottenham are not in great need of another talented young central midfielder at the moment, as their issue is more with defence. I also have no interest in a player who Spurs cannot possibly get on a permanent basis.
