Report: Barcelona working to send player to Spurs for potential two-year loan

Barcelona are working towards completing a loan deal with Tottenham for defender Clement Lenglet, according to Esport3.

The France international, 26, has encountered a rocky spell at the Camp Nou of late after losing his place in the side under manager Xavi Hernandez.

Signed by Barcelona from Sevilla in 2018, Lenglet hit the ground running in Catalonia but has struggled to maintain consistency since then.

And the centre-back now looks likely to depart the LaLiga side this summer with Tottenham named as one club looking to secure a deal ahead of the new campaign.

Spanish outlet Esport3 claim Barcelona have placed Lenglet on a list of players they will look to offload in the off-season, with a two-year loan package with Spurs currently being worked on.

The left-footed defender would be a good fit for head coach Antonio Conte, who is currently after that particular profile to slot into his three-man back line (The Athletic).

Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni remains high on the club’s list of targets, although the 23-year-old is reportedly happy with life at the San Siro and needs to be convinced of a move away (Evening Standard).

Lenglet had quite a difficult season for Barcelona and he is coming off a very rough patch of form which is a bit concerning.

He does fit the bill given he is a left-sided centre-back, but the question is whether he would be able to perform that role at a good level.

But if Conte believes Lenglet can get back to a solid level then he may be one the club may turn to, especially if Bastoni is off the table.
