Report: Bayern Munich looking at same free agent Spurs and Man Utd are linked with

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Tottenham are expected to face competition from Bayern Munich for Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Reports over recent months have indicated that this could be Hugo Lloris’ final season at Tottenham, with the North London club thought to be looking at potential successors for the Frenchman (Evening Standard).

Over the last few weeks, the likes of Everton’s Jordan Pickford (TEAMtalk) and Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez (GiveMeSport) have been mooted as potential targets for Antonio Conte’s men.

Journalist Dean Jones threw a new came into the mix over the weekend by revealing that he has heard that Spurs are also keeping an eye on Sommer (GiveMeSport). ESPN have also reported that Man United are keen on the shot-stopper.

The Swiss international has been a fantastic servant for Gladbach over the years but his future at Borussia Park is up in the air, with his current contract running out in the summer (Transfermarkt).

However, Plettenberg has now taken to social media to reveal that Bayern have also identified the 34-year-old as their top target to replace Manuel Neuer if they cannot get Alexander Nubel back from Monaco.

Sommer is a top goalkeeper but he would be a short-term option given his age. I suspect Paratici and Conte will be eyeing someone like Jordan Pickford, Illan Meslier or Robert Sanchez, who not only have Premier League experience but also have many years ahead of them in their career.
