Report: Bayern Munich may challenge Spurs for signing of central defender

According to a report from German outlet Bild, Bayern Munich may be set to challenge Tottenham in their apparent pursuit of Real Madrid centre-back Eder Militao.

Militao was rumoured to be on Spurs’ radar during the summer transfer window but the central defender ended up remaining at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, the 23-year-old has barely played any football this season, having made just three appearances in all competitions so far (transfermarkt).

Multiple reports from Spain this month have suggested that the Brazilian could be on his way to North London, with AS claiming that Jose Mourinho is a fan of the centre back.

Defensa Central also reported that the former Porto man could be allowed to join the Lilywhites on loan until the end of the season.

Bild have now added that Los Blancos are open to loaning out the out-of-favour centre-back on a temporary deal until the end of the season.

The report suggests that the Bundesliga side are looking at Militao as a cheaper alternative to Dayot Upamecano, who remains their top target.

Spurs Web Opinion

It appears unlikely that we are going to bring in any player before the end of the month. As Alasdair Gold has pointed out, we already have too many non-homegrown players for the Europa League squad and so it will make little sense to bring in another foreign-trained player unless we manage to move another on.
